How To Stop Eating Disorders Permanently!

If you're suffering from eating disorders and want to know how to stop it permanently, then consider a master cleanse. Most eating disorders and food addictions occur because of 1 thing:

Eating foods with addictive substances such as sugar and salt. Overtime people become addicted to these ingredients as does their body.

It's very difficult to stop eating disorders. Most of the time people who try to stop eating a certain food they are addicted to or change their way of eating to stop eating disorders can't last for 1 week. And in most cases these things can take up to a month or more. HOWEVER, there is a way for you to get rid of eating disorders and food addictions in 10 days or less. This is through a master cleanse or as most people call it "The lemonade diet".

When people eat in a certain way or eat unhealthy foods that are addictive and cause eating disorders, their mind and body are both linked to this. In addition most unhealthy foods that cause eating disorders don't completely digest inside the body and remain there, decaying causing the body to want more of it!

A master cleanse completely gets rid of this, cleaning the body from the inside and flushing away all those addictive substances. This causes people to completely change their eating habits. Most of the time people's addictions to fast foods disappear as do their eating disorders.

The point of the master cleanse is that it gets rid of the problems which CAUSE eating disorders and food addictions. By cleaning the body from the inside and getting rid of the problem that causes these things in the first place, the body can restore it's health and this will immediately be felt by the person doing the master cleanse!

What is a Sleep Eating Disorder?

A sleep eating disorder is a relatively rare condition related to sleeplessness. This condition is manifested in excessive sleep walking and eating nocturnally. These people are at risk to themselves because they indulge in overeating and may cause self-injury while sleepwalking. They are usually very distressed emotionally and may suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness. The result of this disorder is excess weight gain, choking while eating, disruption in sleep, injury while cooking food at night and the possibility of starting a fire. Moreover, they sometimes indulge in sleep walking which may potentially lead to accidents.

The people suffering from this sleep eating disorder are unconscious of their activities. They are often unable to recall what they did on the night before. The problem with this category of people is that they wake up at night to walk to the kitchen area and eat large amounts of food as well as non-food items. Since, they are unaware of what they are doing; they may harm themselves by eating risky food items. In addition, the food chosen by them is usually high in sugar and fat. In addition, many of them start preparing food using knives and hot cooking vessels and may injure themselves in the process.

Sleep eating disorder often runs in families. Though the actual percentage of people suffering from this problem is not known, it is usually estimated that about 1 to 3 percent of the population suffers from it. Stressful situations and anger could trigger such a bout, and it is often seen in young women due to the perceived pressures of everyday life. Normally, this condition is a physical sign of a deeper psychological problem. Dieting could be one of the major reasons behind it. Since, most dieters control their urge to eat during the day, they unconsciously overeat at night when their ability to control their senses is low.

Often, people suffering from sleep eating disorder have a history of substance abuse. They may also be emotionally distressed and attempting to lose weight by not eating well enough. However, the attempt at weight loss fails due to excessive eating at night and this may add to the frustration, further fueling the disorder. This condition is very complex and needs professional help. Many medical and psychological tests are carried out to investigate the issues. Proper diagnosis and treatment are compulsory to deal with this condition.

Eating Disorder - Types and Treatment Tips

Eating disorder is getting prevalent in the cities of today. We may call it as psychiatric disorder. It is caused mostly by no regular exercise, no control over consumption of food and eating junk foods containing high calories and cholesterol. Because of these habits people also suffer some serious problems like blood pressure, diabetes other than eating disorder.

Most of the people assume that eating disorders occurs in peoples with excessive weight only but the fact is average weight people can also face these types of problem. Depression can also lead to eating diseases; in fact it is the main cause of binge eating disorder.

Symptoms of Eating Disorders:

Eating disorders are prevalent in many types -

* Binge eating disorder
* Compulsive overeating
* Bulimia
* Anorexia nervosa
* Diabulmia
* Night eating syndrome
* Orthorexia nervosa
* Pica

* Starvation diet
* Anorexia

The most common are:

Binge eating disorder: - Can't stop to eat, eat without checking there profit and loss Because of this behavior people also suffer some serious problems like eating disorder.

* Eats until physically uncomfortable
* Periodically does not exercise to control over consumption of food

Bulimia :- Bulimia nervosa, known as bulimia, is an eating disorder and psychological condition in which the subject engages in recurrent binge eating followed by feelings of guilt, depression, and self-condemnation and intentional purging to compensate for the excessive eating, usually to prevent weight gain. Purging can take the form of vomiting, fasting, inappropriate use of laxatives, enemas, diuretics or other medication, or excessive physical exercise.

Night eating syndrome: - Night eating syndrome is an eating disorder this is an ongoing, persistent behavior, unlike the occasional late snack or skipped meal that most people have from time to time. Withering Away

Imagine not wanting to eat. Actually imagine being disgusted by food. Something inside of you is scared and repulsed by even the sight of food. Yet, despite your awkward feelings and your slender appearance you see no sense that all is normal, until one day you feel faint and lethargic. Could it be that you are an anorexic?

What is Anorexia and What Causes it?

Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder in which the person (90% are females) experience a fear of gaining weight. This fear leads the sufferer to refuse food, over take diet pills and abuse laxatives. This behavior of course leads the one suffering from anorexia to experience heightened weight loss, nutritional depletion, and many other complications and in some cases death.

There has been much debate in the medical and psychological communities about the exact cause or causes of anorexia. There are generally five agreed upon causes, genetics, neurobiological, nutritional, psychological, and social/environmental. Of course each sufferer has a unique set of circumstances and one anorexic's reasons may not be another's. Those that have a genetic disposition to anorexia make up around 50% of the cases. This of course is not the only reason these people fall into having an anorexic disorder, rather having a genetic disposition means just that-a potential.

Those that support neurobiological causes for anorexia insist that a disruption in neurotransmitters causes a change in brain functioning, creating the environment for anorexia to surface. Of course a neurobiological cause can be tied to a genetic predisposition, as new studies indicate is the case for alcohol addiction.

Those that believe nutrition plays a direct role see that nutrition and more specifically a deficiency in zinc has been shown to cause a decrease in appetite. Given this theory one would expect that a direct infusion of zinc should be able to reverse the anorexia. This of course doesn't work on its own and it seems that nutritional deficiencies are part of a larger array of complications having to do with anorexia. Psychological factors seem to have more of a direct impact on the potential anorexic. Depression, isolation, and low self esteem are all factors in building a corridor to full blown anorexia.

Perhaps the cause, which generates the most energy is the social factors cause. Many people believe that anorexics suffer as they do because of increased pressure from social circles, especially media and entertainment outlets "to look thin." This view represents the other other axis in the swirling debate involving the "right cause" for anorexia. Those that believe genetics is the primary cause see social influence at the most as a catalyst, while those that see social influence encouraging women to exhibit anorexic behavior, believe the genetic argument is rather less convincing.

The ever increasing focus on the "body" especially the slender physique of many female athletes and entertainers seems to have an influence on the desire of ordinary women to do the same. Although not scientifically proven, the outcome of increased cases of anorexia along side more interest in a slender figure in culture and society appear to go hand in hand. Despite the obvious social pressures to slim down, those that develop anorexia seem to have a variety of issues that destabilize their psyche helping them to progress towards anorexia.

Bulimia Symptoms - 100 Symptoms Of Bulimia But Just 1 Truth About Eating Disorders

Bulimia does heart your body in so many different ways that it is difficult to list all symptoms. One common mistake bulimic persons do is self-diagnosing what can make the eating disorder even worse.

Just one example. Alexia has been suffering from bulimia for almost 15 years now. She is not totally bulimic, means she has phases where she eats almost normally. There are times where she eats less than 1,000 calories a day and then binge/purge phases with more than 3,000 calories.

Alexia's symptoms are swollen glands and a inflated stomach. Often her whole body feels inflated and hurts everywhere. When she touches her skin, no matter where, it sometimes hurts. From time to time her hands and feet are swollen. She feels tired, sometimes depressed and without energy.

I know that this does not help because logic does not help to get rid of bulemia. But every doctor will tell you that bulimia does not work at all. It makes it even impossible for your body to loose weight normally because your are shutting down your metabolism.

Bulimia wears away your teeth and bones and the various forms of malnutrition can cause dozens of other symptoms. Many bulimic women (and men) are found dead near their toilet. Trying to loose weight by vomiting is one of the stupidest things you can do. Even once a week is too much already. It is not worth it and it does not work.

It is not your fault if you suffer from bulimia. You need professional help. That is why there are treatment centers and people who know so much about it. It is a disease. Do not wait any longer. Any minute you wait destroys your body even further.

Bulimia And Anorexia - What Exactly Is The Difference Between Anorexia And Bulimia Eating Disorders?

What exactly is bulimia and when do you know that you suffer from it? There are eating disorders in many different forms and types. Bulimia is pretty common but still confused with other disorders.

Eating disorders come in many forms and names. There is anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating just to name the most common ones. Anorexia and bulimia are often confused.

Anorexia is self starvation. Anorexic people suffer from a serious and fatal disease when not treated early. Even with treatment, anorexia ends still fatal in many cases. An anorexic person just starves to death because of the strict control of food intake. These people believe they are still fat and overweight when they are not. They keep dieting until they are death.

Bulimic people instead are usually slightly overweight but also not happy with their weight or body shape. Binge eating is very common in bulimia patients. Binge eating means that these people have periods of excessive food intake, often thousands of calories per meal.

After eating they feel so bad that they see the only way to get rid of all the calories by vomiting. The process of purging though is very harmful to the body when repeated often.

Another symptom for a person with bulimia is overdoing exercise. They train a lot, sometimes several times a day to get rid of the calories. The behavior of binge eating, vomiting, exercise, dieting etc. is very bad for the body long term.

The treatment for bulimia starts with a mental therapy. Bulemic people are often not much overweight but obsessed with their body shape. The bad eating habits can even lead to heart problems or cancer. There is no need to suffer from it. Bulimia is easier to treat than anorexia.

Bulimia - Is Serotonin The Hidden Secret In Successful Bulimia Treatment?

My younger sisters husband is 29 years old and suffering from bulimia. Bulimia in men is still quite uncommon but more an more men are suffering from it. His therapist made an interesting suggestion to be tested for hypoglycemia. He believes that this could be the solution for his problem.

Jake, my sisters husband, was struggling with bulimia for the last five years to a point where he had to get professional help. I told him that eating disorders are difficult to treat and that he must look for a therapist soon.

He was not too happy about this idea because of the costs involved. He also had to pay high dentist bills. But at some point he had no choice. His teeth were aching all time because of the gastric acid eroding his teeth. He was purging three times a day. He was desperate for help.

He finally went to a therapist who was familiar with this problem. He said that his problem might have more to do with a deranged biochemistry and not only with mental problems. He meant that a person who suffers from bulimia has often problems producing enough Serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter which helps us to feel happy. Serotonin is also closely connected with our eating habits.

There is a special test for hypoglycemia to find out if he has a Serotonin problem or not. The doctor was right, the test was positive. This was the first step in helping Jake to overcome his bad eating habits.

It will take a while until he will fully recover but now he has hope and optimism again. The therapist made an exact treatment plan with simple to follow actions steps for Jake. I hope bulimia will be a thing of the past for him soon.

How Guilt Keeps You Fat and How You can Change Your Life and Be Happier and Lighter

Inappropriate guilt is not harmless, innocent, magnanimous or spiritual. It is vicious and demeaning and serves to keep you stuck where you are. It is important to differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate guilt. Appropriate guilt prevents us from doing what is wrong or harmful. It takes place before the action and prevents the action. Inappropriate guilt usually happens after the fact and is used to beat up oneself or manipulate others.

Often people use guilt as a way to get what they think they need or hold onto what they want. In truth, you lose by using guilt. You don't have to manipulate to be loved.

You can feel inappropriate guilt both when you are happy and when you are down. It is often used as a way to keep you and others from being powerful. The truth is, often you don't trust yourself with all the power and ability you really have. One reason people keep weight on is to avoid confronting their own power. Imagine what you can do when you begin to step into your power and no longer need excuses like weight to hold you back. Consider the possibility that it might be the most fun you have ever had! To quote that great sage, Auntie Mame, "Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving!"

To perpetuate the need to repress who you are, you may project guilt into every area of yourself and your life. You may make suffering something to be admired. Many advertising campaigns convince us that if we really love or care for each other, we'll buy this or that in order to prove that we are a good parent, spouse or person. We have made weakness a virtue and then tried to shame those who are most able. This conflict generates a self-perpetuating sickness. It's time now to acknowledge the able and assist the apparently unable in realizing his/her own power. Behavior that is rewarded magnifies. Reward empowering behavior wherever you see it, within yourself and others.

Imagine that you are a young child, five or six years old. You are sitting at the dinner table and on your plate is a big, cold pile of the most horrendous vegetable ever created. It could be okra, cooked carrots, asparagus, turnips or anything that you, as a child, found revolting. You do not want to eat it. Every parent has used the same argument to try to coerce their children into eating what they don't like: "Think of all the starving children in China or Africa or Europe".

Children do not have the power to reason until puberty. So the way this information is assimilated into young minds is through the following scenario: "Someone is starving because I am not eating. Therefore, it's my fault that they are starving. If I eat they won't starve anymore and eating will take away my guilt."

Most of us live with inordinate amounts of guilt, much of which we bring upon ourselves and we don't deserve or need it. Then we learn to handle the guilt by eating. This creates terrible conflicts, especially when attempting to diet. The vicious cycle of guilt-eat-guilt-eat can keep you overweight all of your life.

Another example of the eat-guilt-eat cycle comes from the "clean plate club". From this day forward, the clean plate club is out of business! Many of you experienced stern repercussions if you did not clean your plate. However, how long has it been since someone stood over you and demanded you eat everything on your plate? Probably quite a while. So why are you still doing it? Because it is an old program in your subconscious you may not even be aware of and it's running your eating behavior.

That old excuse, "I don't want to waste food" won't work anymore, either. There are two ways to spell "waist". What you choose to do with the food on your plate when your body's had enough food (waste) will determine the size of your body (waist). If you feel guilty throwing food away simply wrap it up, put it in the fridge and leave it until it's covered with mold and then toss it.

Get rid of the guilt in your life by being accountable for your life and your life alone. A helpful tool for accomplishing this is the Serenity Prayer:

"God, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can.

And the wisdom to know the difference."

Listen to how many times you say, "I'm sorry." Unless you really did something you feel sorry for, "I'm sorry" usually comes from guilt. If you did something for which you feel sorry, apologize, and let it go. Beating yourself up with guilt serves absolutely no purpose except to make you feel bad and eat!

If you have children in your life, allow them to teach you how to eat. They know how. They listen to their bodies and trust the signals of hunger and fullness, regardless of what time it is, where they are or any other external factors. Don't guilt them or "food abuse" them. Forcing a child to eat something that is unpleasant to them is barbaric. Don't do that to your children. Don't force food on them or use it for any purpose other than to nourish the body and be a pleasant experience. If you do that, chances are they will never have weight or esteem problems.

Bulimia - How To Avoid Teeth Erosion When Suffering From Bulimia

Another side effect of bulimia is that it damages the teeth. These damages are not just cosmetic. Is there a way to protect your teeth?

One sign of bulimia is that you are purging frequently. While the act of vomiting itself is nothing natural, it does cause real harm to your body when don too often. Your teeth are just one part of the problem.

The acidic stomach content is softening your tooth enamel and dentine. Over time the damage can be real big to all your teeth. The costs for a restoration of your teeth enormous. I understand that the purging does not happen totally voluntarily. Bulimia is a mental disease and needs to be treated. But how can you protect your teeth while you are suffering from it?

The aim is to remove the acid as quickly as possible from your teeth. Right after purging you should clean your teeth with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). If you do not have it available then use plain water instead. However, this is not a long term solution. If you do not stop vomiting then you will continue to harm your teeth.

Once the enamel has been reduced your teeth are vulnerable. Mechanical stress from chewing or tooth brushing can cause damage already. I also suggest to use fluoride and a night guard to reduce the risks of abrasion.

If it is too late the only way to rest orate the tooth is going to the dentist getting a filling, crown or inlay. A crown gives the most protection against mechanical and chemical erosion.

Bulimia - The Myths About Bulimia And How I Did Overcome My Eating Disorder

When I was 17 years old I tried to recover from my bulimia. I was purging after binges for several years. I was ready to quit. I had to.

I did not take more than 1200 calories a day to a point where I was just to weak to get through the day. Do not ask me why I did that. I had no choice. If you have bulimia then you do strange things but they look normal to you.

One day I realized that I had to stop this. I started eating normally again but it was so painful. I could keep my food down but my stomach was not used to it anymore. I had painful bloating.

It seemed to take forever but one day the pain did go away slowly. I also started to get my bleeding again. The first time after 16 months. It was a sign that may body started to behave normal again.

During that time I could not check my weight a single time. I was anxious that the weight I see would trigger bulimia again. I tried not to think about it at all. Just swallow the food and keep it down.

One mistake I did was still thinking about diet all day long. I was thinking about calories and fat every time I got some food. But it was in me. I always thought like this, what effect will the food have on my shape and weight.

I also did exercise too much. Six times a week I either went jogging or did some weight lifting in the gym. Two or three times would have been enough.

However, I made it but when I am looking back today I am still scared that it may come back one day. This has been ten years ago but it feels like it was last year.

I just can recommend everybody to get help. If you can not talk with your parents or partner, go to the doctor. For me it was the doctor who helped me to get over the first hurdle. I was too embarrassed to talk with someone I know. I did not want to know anybody. I just picked a doctor at the other side of the city and started talking. It was the first step to my recovery.

Me and ED

I'd like to tell you about ED. We've been together for as long as I can recollect. While other friends revolve in and out of my life, ED remains steadfastly by my side. He's been there for minor losses, tragedies, births, deaths, milestones, as well as growing pains. I can't say that I like the guy but at times he has been a great comfort. And my identity as well. No self confidence needed while he's around cause he does all the thinking. My actions result because of him. I had a visit from ED recently. Its been a while. Actually, a long while. It was a surprise visit. He showed up and we went for it. See after any loss or emotional time he shows up to take my hand, and convinces me how much I need him. The times I resist him are the most rewarding times of my life. Sometimes I can't resist his charms. Here's how I usually feel about our visits.

Before... agitated, upset and crappy.

During... comforted and crappy.

After... relieved, guilty, sick and crappy.

The further I get from our last visit the better I feel. I wish to forget his face. Forget what he feels like and that I needed him. When ED's around life is like a never ending Drunk. Where I'm not responsible for who I hurt, what I do, or if I work or see friends. He gives me permission to stop my life depending on his whim. He's gotten me into lots of trouble. He has made me hurt myself. I have hurt my family even more. See ripping a razor blade across my body feels better than dwelling on how hopeless he makes me feel. He's chased people out of my life and left me at my knees. I know the responsibility is mine but thats the weird part. You want to be with him against all your better judgment. He tricks you into thinking that this time will be different. Thats my definition of stupid. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Like bumping into a wall. I've done it before it hurts. But see, this time I will walk into the wall again but it won't hurt.

If you haven't guessed by now ED is not a person . ED stands for Eating Disorder. You've heard of them Anorexia, Bulimia, Compulsive Eating. It is a illness that can and will be fatal. I know other disorders are linked to ED as well but I can only tell you of my experience. I like to think I have good judgment. But definitely not while in my disease. I was at a retreat where a girl spoke about how she got rid of excess food by drinking a solution of Epsom salts and water. I was off and running. Now most people would have thought that was sick . But I thought it was an idea worth trying. It worked really well. Never mind I was sick and weak for several days afterwards. I also used laxatives and syrup of Ipecac to purge with. I stuck with laxatives the longest. Started with several at a time. Then used a whole box be it 40 or 60 tabs. They seemed to work along with the next days fast. Oh, and the 5 miles plus run. Rain or shine everyday. My bodies been through a lot. At the time I was told of health consequences. Only one thing mattered. Wearing the smallest size on the rack.

I've picked myself up and brushed myself off so many times which is a victory in itself. Survival seems to be my theme in life. Thats what I think I'm here for. If I have time to make up for some of the hurt I caused great. But I first and foremost must survive. See, if I give in and go where ED wants that would be suicide. I believe I would be sent right back here to repeat the hell I often feel life's like now. I believe that my ED is a disease . It's cunning baffling and powerful.

Anatomy of a Binge

What do you do when you have an uncontrollable desire to eat? First you make your way to the fridge, the first stop on the road to mindless eating. Standing in front of the fridge your eyes glance quickly over the shelves. Shiny bits of sliver topped containers holding yesterday's gastronomical delights await the soon to be feeding frenzy. Then you yank the freezer door open for a thorough surveillance of its icy delicacies.

Mindless munching rules stipulate that no stone be left unturned, that means the cabinets are next. They too are scoured intently. "Umm what do we have here? Fruit cocktail, that's kinda, sorta, healthy right?" It's only a small can and only 109 calories, so you eat it. The next shelf reveals another goodie, sugar free, fat free pudding, healthy and chocolate no less. "In less than two minutes this creamy concoction will be mine all mine." A couple spoonfuls before it sets won't hurt. (2 TBS 22.5 calories) "Into the fridge you go. But before you close the door a piece of leftover grilled chicken catches your eye. "What the heck the chicken is low fat and I need the protein. (81 calories)

By now you've admitted that you don't know what you want to eat. Your rational mind is telling you to "run like the wind" out of the kitchen; better yet out of the house. Then you remember reading that brushing your teeth is a ploy to keep you from munching. "Colgate here I come."

As if on autopilot you're back in the kitchen after brushing your teeth. This time you reach for the grapes. Yummy, nothing like minty fresh grapes. (A handful about 10- 34 calories) At last the pudding is set. "Let's see a half cup is 90 calories; no need to measure, I'll eyeball it." (Actual calorie count 135) Think I'll add some graham crackers (2 planks 110)

An over the shoulder parting shot reveals the cheesecake. You could swear it was glowing, and angels were singing its praises. A neon sign in your mind flashes "This is what you really wanted", And you know what? You could've had a small slice (379 calories) and it would've been less than the other stuffed you wolfed down at (491.5 calories) in search of the magic healthy snack.

Lesson: Sometimes it's better to have the small indulgence. Keep the portion size in check and just don't make it a habit.

Ways to Break the Bingeing Cycle

Bingeing is certainly one of the biggest enemies of a healthy weight. Every once in a while some people will be unable to control themselves. They will eat and drink a lot. Then they will feel guilt and go to another extreme. The feelings shame will appear in the purging period. Then it will go back to the bingeing period. It is just an endless cycle and it is certainly bad for health.

So what does bingeing actually mean? In fact, it means that people eat and drink because they feel depressed. They will try to eat and drink a lot in order to make themselves feel more comfortable. They are not eating because they are hungry.

This is the problem. In most cases they will find that they will be even more unpleasant after they eat a lot. They just feel a bit more comfortable while they are eating and drinking. They will feel guilty with bingeing and try to punish themselves with purge. However, the punishment will just lead them to another cycle of bingeing!

In order to stop this cycle of bingeing and purging, you should try to understand what makes you binge. You need to find out the reason otherwise you will not be able to quit the cycle. You are not eating because you feel hungry will certainly means that they are other things that makes you do that.

For example, dissatisfaction with life will make you fall into this cycle of bingeing and purging. You may also fall into this trap if you are under great pressure. You should try to find ways to resolve the problem but not trying to eat a lot. Excessive eating and drinking cannot help you to resolve the problem. It will only lead to an unhealthy body and life. You have to be determined to break the cycle and try to ask yourself why you fell into the cycle.

In some cases you may even need to find some professional to help you. It is not something shameful when you try to resort to professional. Some people may think that this only shoes that they are weak but the truth is that it is not. You will need the help of the others if you find that you have been fallen into the cycle of bingeing and purging for a while. Even if you are not going to seek help from the professionals, you may still try to read some books on the subject. This will certainly help you to find a solution!

Binge Eating

Binge eating affects way too many people across North America. It is a way for people to deal with their stress, depression or with low self-esteem. Food can be a real comfort, but when it turns into a binge every couple of days that causes a major gain in weight, it might be time to stop and ask one's self if this binging habit is becoming a problem.

There are some cases where uncontrollable eating habits were not caused by another problem, but many are. Some binging happens as a result of a person's depression, lack of confidence or stress. People who have a problem often feel guilty or embarrassed for binging, do not feel entirely satisfied that the food is a comfort, eat whenever they feel stressed out, or eat continuously without even really realizing it. Binge eating can turn into a serious disorder when not dealt with. It can lead to serious health problems, such as increased chance of heart attacks, diabetes for example.

How can therapy or counseling help someone get away from binge eating? Believe it or not, seeking help from a therapist or counselor can help a person to change their eating habits for the better. As mentioned before, binge eating can usually be an emotional response to stresses occurring in the person's life that the patient is not usually aware of. A therapist can help the patient to address their true issues and then work with them to find healthier ways to deal with these issues. This can sometimes help the patient get away from their binging because what was actually bothering them has been dealt with.

Seeking therapy can be easier than a person thinks. What stops most from seeking therapy can be the apprehension of going in to consult a therapist or counselor in person. This, of course, can create more stress for the patient who then eats to cope with it and so does not really help the problem. There are online therapists and online counselors available if the person can get onto the internet. All the individual has to do is put in a search and they will be able to find an online therapist who can help them get away from their binge eating and into a healthier life. The online therapist and the patient can message back and forth; the patient answering the therapist's questions and the therapist giving out advice or suggestions that can help the patient with their eating disorder.

Regardless of how the patient gets help, the first step to getting rid of the binge eating habit is to accept that one needs help. The next is to find a comfortable way to consult a therapist or a counselor who can work with them. The therapist can help the patient address any issues that might be causing the binging and can help work with the patient to make healthier eating decisions. The therapist will also most likely get the patient on a program that will promote a healthier diet and one that the patient will hopefully stick to for the sake of improving their health.

Who Is A Great Example?

Right off the bat I can give two examples of people who sabotage being healthy. And that is what it is all about. The bottom line is being healthy. One person couldn't stay married, and kept offering a drink until he made someone else sick. Another person offered food until someone was sick--a week after being in the hospital for being really sick and having multiple surgeries over several years. So the person who is the healthiest person has to pass the test of having a healthy family life as they look and act healthy. Notice I didn't say "happy" family life! Happy is just surface unless you live with someone and can really tell they are "happy." Being content is leagues ahead of what most people in this world have.

How can I say it is easy to find someone who is healthy? Because healthy people are all around us. They live to 100. Finding someone who is really old is one of the easiest ways to find a healthy person. This doesn't mean go find the sickest old person you can, but someone who is living and mobile. Someone who is active and can carry on a fun argument. Small children are happy and laugh more than adults, but that doesn't mean they eat healthy, and that sure doesn't mean they are healthy! They can give you the measles!

So finding someone who is healthy to be a mentor is easy. This person is generous, eats healthy foods, loves to have fun with movement, laughs and loves to say good things. This person has what it takes to be a mentor. This person is the one looking in the mirror until they are 100.

Long Term Effects of Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia affects different organs. And the longer you have bulimia the more organs get affected and damaged.

The organs that suffer the most are: heart, kidney, brain, digestive system, bones, skin and endocrine glands.

The heart gets damaged from the constant electrolyte imbalances caused by continuous purging and becomes weaker the longer the bulimia continues. Some people even can die from this complication when a weak heart goes into a "heart block". This is when the heart suddenly stops beating due to extremely low potassium or other mineral deficiency induced by vomiting and laxatives abuse.

Kidney damage is very common among long term bulimics. The kidneys are organs that normally correct mineral abnormalities in the body. But when a person's mineral balance is constantly disturbed, like in case of bulimia, the kidneys are under enormous strain to correct it and eventually they get damaged.

The brain suffers also from the moment bulimia starts. People have distorted thought patterns like depression and anxiety. The longer bulimia goes on for the stronger the addiction to binging and purging becomes. The long time effects of brain damage from bulimia are: suicidal thoughts, self-cutting and other self-harm symptoms. Impulsive behavior can occur and people can become less responsible for their action.

The digestive system also gets affected badly. The stomach experience delays in empting its food content and people suffer from pains in the abdominal area, bloating, acid reflux, stomach ulcers and esophageal problems.

In long standing bulimia cases sufferers loose the feeling of being hungry or full. Sometimes their taste distorts which makes them eat strange combinations of food or experience cravings (for example craving to eat very salty or sour things).

The bones become weak due to the development of low bones density after many years of suffering from bulimia. People can and do complain about their bone's aching plus they have lots of pain and the bones can break from even minimal strain or pressure.

Skin looses its youthful look even at a relatively young age. Dry skin, inflammation of the skin, abnormal irritation and ongoing pimples are common problems for bulimics.
Hair loss due to mineral and protein depletion is inevitable in long term bulimia.

The endocrine glands eventually stop working properly and produce fewer hormones than the body needs: this makes a person age quickly and loose muscle tone.

Menstruation becomes irregular or stops and because of this a woman is unable to conceive and have a baby.

To sum up, the long term effects of bulimia nervosa can be extremely dangerous. And treatment for this disorder becomes more complicated the longer it goes on.
The best way is to prevent these dangerous effects from happening is to treat the disease sooner rather than later.

The best thing is to start educating yourself and your family about what to do and what to change at home to help the sufferer. Home and family support are proven to be the best way of treating this condition. But it has to be the right help and the right support.

Can You Get To The Root Cause Of Your Binge Eating Disorder?

Do you know what the root cause of your eating disorder is? Would you know how to heal it if you found the cause?

A lot of books have been written on the subject of eating disorders and most of them will have you dig into your family history to find the pain that has been inflicted upon you so that you can determine who or what sent you into a downward spiral. Then you can focus on healing the relationship or the situation.

My approach is this: It's a good idea to find your past "hurts" and get them into the front of your brain instead of locked into the dark corner of it but I also don't think spending a ton of time digging for every last morsel of who hurt you on Thursday February 13, 1992 or Friday September 12, 2004 is effective either. Obviously if you were abused or you can pinpoint a specific issue then you should work on releasing it.

More importantly, I like to get right down to the nitty gritty of the problem and I'll give you the answer now as I do with my clients.

Think about this for a moment. Let's say you were raised by very strict parents who never showed you love. They ignored you. They constantly compared you to your brother or sister. They hit you. They yelled at you until their voices went hoarse. They put you last.

Do you know what has happened to you?

Do you know what the one common denominator is for everyone who has been through these circumstances?

Do you want to blame your parents for the rest of your life for treating you so horribly?

Most people do stay in the blame mode and never move on. They turn to food as a way to control something in their life when they feel as though they can't control their circumstances. Food becomes the outlet. But then, because food was never meant to act in that capacity of comfort, they begin to lose control and the issue then becomes an eating disorder when all along it was abuse from their parents.

Do you think if the person works on healing their feelings about their parents that their eating disorder will go away? NO! NO! NO! It will not go away. Why? Because although the parents were the reason behind the neglect it is the neglect itself that is the root cause.

The person needs to deal with the root cause which is the feelings neglect has left on them. What the person needs to heal is a feeling of worthlessness; not feeling good enough to be loved. Not feeling good enough for anything is the problem.

Wow! What a difference that makes in the whole process of healing doesn't it? All this time you thought that if you dealt with your parents or the situation the rest would go away but that's not true!

Now you can see that getting to the bottom of the issue is where you need to be. Take a piece of paper and write out what you think started your eating disorder, then write down the feelings you felt because of the situation. Now you are getting somewhere!

One last thought - blaming someone else for your eating disorder is the best way to stay in your problem. Stop blaming others even if you know who they are. Let it go by telling yourself that you no longer need to feel that way. It is a thought and you can change your thoughts. Today you are working on you.

Orthorexia Nervosa - From Health Food to Death Food

As more and more people not only become interested in healthy eating, switching their diets from animal protein to vegetarian, vegan, or even raw foods, there is a minority of people who not only get carried away with their new found dietary plan, but in fact fall into the grip of the world's strangest eating disorder - Orthorexia Nervosa.

What is Orthorexia Nervosa?

You've seen those people (and maybe you're even one of them) who searches and seeks for the food consumption plan that is just right and will ensure health, happiness, and longevity. Today it is raw foods and a few years before it was macrobiotics, whatever way of eating there is the Orthorexic will chase after it in hopes of finding some inner sense of salvation.

So what can be so bad about a little consciousness when it comes to selecting foods? Its true and it is proven that organic food and foods with less preservatives and hormones (i.e. less meet and more vegetables) are healthier, but someone who is suffering from Orthorexia obsesses over their food choices to the point that this obsession isolates them socially. Orthorexics want everyone to know about their new found diet and "sought after conversions" are par for the course. In a sense Orthorexia is sort of like making obsession with healthy eating into a religion. There is a guilty feeling when food choices aren't kept meticulously and a hope of "redemption"when it comes to health.

Of course, not every health conscious person who seeks to better their dietary plan is suffering from Orthorexia Nervosa, but it is clear that every Orthorexic person expresses the disorder through the guise of "needing to eat healthfully."

What are the Signs of Orthorexia?

Orthorexia Nervosa is a very hard eating disorder to identify, partly because the person suffering from it tends to manage as far as health is concerned. Most Orthorexics recede from social interactions, partly because they become so obsessed with "healthy eating" that all of their conversations focus on food; ultimately distancing themselves from friends and family.

Also, those who have Orthorexia Nervosa tend to feel guilty when they break their "diet"even in the slightest. They often times set up very strict "religious" rules for themselves, which they struggle to keep, forcing to become even more obsessed with their food choices. Besides their feelings of guilt they also tend to look down on others who do not share their vision of the "perfect way to eat."

Treatment of Orthorexia

Orthorexia Nervosa, like many other eating disorders is an outcome of many different intertwining circumstances. These include psychological, physiological, physical, genetic, and social. Treatment often depends upon what level someone who has Orthorexia is at. Most times treatment consists of both therapy and food choice changes. The Orthorexic needs to retrain their brain and body how to eat. The most important thing to remember when dealing someone who fits into the description of Orthorexia Nervosa, is that more often than not they will feel that they are eating just fine and that their lives are just fine, be prepared to acknowledge that they might just be an over zealous "health nut" instead of someone suffering from Orthorexia. Never the less it is important to be aware and informed of various changes in the concerned party's food choices.
